Cost Consultant Job Overview

• Manage cost planning and control for MEP packages across all project phases
• Prepare detailed estimates, tender documents, and technical cost reports for MEP systems
• Provide advice on value engineering and lifecycle costing
• Evaluate MEP subcontractor bids and support procurement
• Administer contracts, variations, and claims in line with industry standards
• Support change control processes, ensuring accurate adjustments to project budgets
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary design teams and clients
• Produce regular financial and cost performance reports
• Stay informed of market trends, technologies, and digital tools relevant to MEP cost consultancy

Cost Consultant Job Requirements

• Proven experience in MEP cost management, ideally within a consultancy environment
• Someone who has begun their APC or MRICS qualified
• Strong understanding of MEP systems and technical components
• Familiar with key contract forms including JCT, NEC, and FIDIC
• Proficient in tools such as CostX, BCIS, and other digital estimating platforms
• Experience with carbon cost planning and sustainability-driven projects (preferred)
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills
• Ability to work independently and contribute to team knowledge and mentoring
• A proactive approach to continuous learning and professional growth
