Job Description:

CORPORATE VOLUNTEERING EVENTS LEADER

Salary: £28,500 – £30,000 (0.8FTE) for 4 days a week (variable days)

Contract length: 0.8 FTE for 12 months, with potential extension

Location: On-site at outdoor locations around London, Thames21 offices at Guildhall and Bow, and at Thames21 offices/stores at Bow, Brent, and Greenwich; occasional work from home.

Report to: Head of Fundraising

Liaison with: Corporate Volunteering Officer, Thames Programmes Manager, Thames21 Event Support Staff and Contractors, and occasionally Thames21 Project Officers, local authorities, Port of London Authority.

Purpose of the job

To plan, prepare, lead, and deliver river clean-up and restoration events (one half-day and one full-day or two half-day events weekly) for corporate volunteer groups, including planning, pre-event visits, risk assessments, leading the event, briefing, motivating volunteers, equipment management, setup, cleanup, and maintenance.

Main duties and responsibilities
  • Plan and lead river clean-up and restoration events, including logistics and equipment management.
  • Complete and submit relevant booking forms (PLA, Canal & Rivers Trust, Leaside Canoes).
  • Engage and motivate volunteers, ensuring safety, and collect content for Thames21 communications.
  • Brief volunteers on activities such as clean-ups, vegetation management, planting, and other environmental tasks.
  • Explain Thames21’s aims and the impact of activities, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and thank volunteers post-event.
  • Coordinate with the Corporate Volunteering Officer on group needs and event details, communicate logistics, and maintain records.
  • Fill in for the Corporate Volunteering Officer if needed, ensuring staffing and event delivery.
  • Supervise Event Support Contractors, generate risk assessments, conduct site visits, and manage equipment and vehicles.
