Corporate Tax Technical Research Manager

Base Location: London or any of our network of 20 offices nationally

Do you enjoy tax technical research and solving complex technical queries? We are looking for a talented individual at Manager level, from either a corporate or mixed tax background, to be part of our national Central Technical Team. The ideal candidate will have very strong technical skills, drive, and curiosity.

The Central Technical team collaborates with teams across the tax practice to collect, create, curate, and communicate technical insight. This involves original research, analyzing knowledge submissions, and producing technical resources to support our teams and clients. Responsibilities include monitoring tax developments, producing newsletters, and working with the Tax Policy team.

We are expanding the team to increase technical expertise, enhance our collection of guidance, and incorporate new technologies including AI tools. Team members are based across the UK, supporting flexible and hybrid working. While not directly client-facing, an understanding of client issues is essential.

What will you be doing?

1. Producing technical reference and thought leadership materials.
2. Undertaking research to draft technical materials based on legislation, case law, and guidance, incorporating insights from various sources.
3. Maintaining and updating materials for legal and procedural changes.
4. Supporting client service teams with complex technical queries.
5. Engaging with HMRC and HMT on consultations and expertise areas.
6. Assisting with technological developments, including AI tools, for technical research.
7. Providing technical support for training and development activities.

What will you need to do it?

1. Relevant legal or tax qualification (e.g., CTA).
2. Familiarity with the UK tax system and ability to learn new regimes quickly.
3. Confidence in interpreting legislation and case law, with basic legal research skills.
4. Strong writing skills.
5. Knowledge of tax technology tools, including AI, is desirable.
6. Experience in practical client advice is advantageous.
