Job Description

Are you an inspirational and collaborative leader? Are you keen to use your leadership skills to protect the organisation and our staff?

As Corporate Security Senior Advisor, you’ll be working in a small team responsible for providing assurance that we are addressing our security risks and fostering a positive security culture. You will serve as a role model for security, promoting good behaviors and ensuring the protection of our people, data, information, and physical assets.

Your responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the Corporate Security Manager in overseeing and mitigating security risks
  • Providing leadership on assessing and managing security risks, including retained responsibilities
  • Collaborating with risk owners across the organization to understand, assess, and mitigate risks
  • Providing assurance to the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for security, EA Board, and Executive Directors
  • Partnering with Defra group Security to ensure security strategies, policies, and processes are in place
  • Leading initiatives to improve security culture through training, communication, and engagement
  • Running governance meetings to oversee security decisions
  • Maintaining networks with security professionals to stay updated on latest developments

The wider team handles diverse tasks. You will be involved in various activities, gaining broad experience across key areas.

The team

You will be part of a small, welcoming team within the Corporate Management, Assurance, and Security department, dedicated to protecting and empowering the organization. You will have access to professional security advice within Defra group Security and collaborate with subject matter experts in the Environment Agency.

Experience and skills required

The external security landscape is complex and evolving. While you do not need to be a security professional, you should have:

  • An understanding of broader influences on organizational security to enable continuous improvement
  • Proven leadership skills to achieve outcomes, foster partnerships, influence, and inspire
  • Ability to build effective partnerships within Defra and the Environment Agency to jointly manage risks
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders, managing multiple priorities and demands
  • Experience in inspiring cultural change, stakeholder management, communications, engagement, and implementing business change (beneficial but not essential)

This is a hybrid role: primarily office-based at your nearest location in England with the option to work from home. Some travel across the country may be required.
