Job summary

National Farmers’ Union (NFU) seeks an in-house solicitor to provide legal and commercial support across NFU and its subsidiaries. You will draft and negotiate contracts, advise on data protection, and shape procurement practices to balance value, risk and governance.

The role requires a UK practising certificate with strong contract experience and excellent stakeholder communication across the organisation.

Qualifications

• You’ll be a qualified solicitor with a current UK practising certificate.
• Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
• Strong understanding of GDPR and data protection compliance.
• Ability to advise stakeholders practically and with business focus.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building across the business.

Salary: c. £55,000 (Dependant on Skills and Experience)

Location: Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, minimum 2 days onsite p/w

Working Hours: 35 hours per week

Purpose of the role & how you will contribute:

You’ll provide in-house legal and commercial support to the NFU and its subsidiary companies, including contract drafting and negotiation, data protection compliance, and the development of proportionate procurement practices to support value for money, effective risk management and good governance.

What you’ll bring:

You’ll be a qualified solicitor (or equivalent) with a current UK practising certificate, bringing strong experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial contracts. With a solid understanding of GDPR and data protection compliance, you’ll be confident advising stakeholders in a practical, business-focused way. Highly commercially aware, you’ll balance legal risk with organisational objectives, applying sound procurement principles and contributing to effective governance. You’ll also be an excellent communicator, able to simplify complex legal concepts, influence at all levels, and build strong working relationships across the business while delivering clear, pragmatic guidance.
