Job description
Overview

Corporate Counsel – Bermuda

This is a senior role. Senior enough that the right person may already be at a crossroads in their career. Do you keep climbing the greasy pole in a big city law firm, with all that entails, or do you compromise on the work and earning capacity, in return for a bit more balance and control? Not an easy decision given all you have invested to reach this point, but perhaps there is another way, if you’re someone with a sense of adventure and the flexibility to relocate.

This is a chance to join an offshore heavyweight, advising on the Bermuda law aspects of huge cross-border deals. It’s an impressive team that is ambitious and driven, but where targets are reasonable and the culture even better. They work hard, so you won’t be knocking off at 5pm every day, but there are not too many outfits at this esteemed level, who can offer a more sustainable balance.

The work is interesting too. It’s international by nature, often complex and always for big ticket clients, but it is also varied, avoiding the repetition that comes with the territory in some of the biggest corporate teams. You might be leading on a private equity transaction one day and a banking deal the next. You could be advising an established titan of the global insurance sector, or an early stage fintech or crypto company in the island’s fast-growing digital assets market. What it won’t be is dull.

If you’re looking for a move that offers the scope to demonstrate your potential, doing sophisticated work in a high-quality environment and where success is rewarded with progression, this is well worth considering.

Responsibilities

This role involves advising on Bermuda law aspects of large cross-border deals and leading on transactions. You will have senior responsibility in managing deal flow, coordinating with international teams, and acting as a primary contact on deals where appropriate. The work is international, varied, and designed to leverage broad corporate experience without being dull.

Requirements
  • Overseas qualified lawyers must be admitted in the UK or an equivalent Commonwealth jurisdiction (such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada or South Africa).
  • This will suit someone with significant experience of leading teams and acting as primary contact on deals, so you are likely to have at least 8 or 9 years’ PQE.
  • Strong general corporate, M&A, private equity, funds or finance experience, gained with a leading City/International or equivalent firm is essential.
Package
  • Attractive low-tax salary, negotiable depending on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits and bonus.
  • Relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance)
Process
  • Interviews will take place by videoconference.
  • Start dates typically around 3-6 months later (depending on your notice period).
  • Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas and relocation.
Bermuda

Bermuda offers you the opportunity to live and work in one of the most sought-after locations on the planet. The island benefits from a mild year-round climate, never too cold in the winter and rarely too hot in the summer. It is famed for its picture-postcard pink sand beaches and crystal-clear ocean, but it also has plenty of history and boasts all the attractions associated with a luxury holiday destination. And if you should need a break from island life, with regular direct flights to London, New York and other parts of the US, it is particularly well connected.
