What is the role?

We’re looking for a Corporate Governance Trainee based at our head office in York. Reporting to the Deputy Company Secretary, you will help to maintain an efficient and professional governance function across the Group. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, or someone who is seeking their first governance role, to begin a governance career within a FTSE company. The role offers exposure to Board and Committee processes, listed company regulation and senior stakeholders, while providing practical experience with full study support towards the Chartered Governance Institute qualification. Successful candidates will be supported in developing the skills and experience required to progress towards more senior governance roles as their responsibilities develop.

The role would be ideal for an individual with a genuine interest in how companies are governed and how Boards make decisions, who is keen to develop a long-term career in corporate governance. Whilst this is an entry-level role, it is a position requiring professionalism, discretion, attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.

What you’ll do as a Corporate Governance Trainee
  • Maintain statutory records for Group companies using Diligent Entities.
  • Prepare and submit confirmation statements and other regulatory filings to Companies House.
  • Support the administration of the Group's share schemes.
  • Assist with the preparation and delivery of the Annual Report and AGM.
  • Assist with the maintenance of governance information on the corporate website.
  • Support the preparation and release of regulatory announcements to the London Stock Exchange.
  • Assist with the assembly of Board and Committee packs using Diligent Boards.
What experience and qualifications do I need?
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent attention to detail and a proactive mindset.
  • Previous experience in a company secretarial, governance or legal environment would be beneficial, but not essential, as training will be provided.
  • The ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • A proactive and professional approach.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver accurate work to deadlines.
  • A desire to study towards a CGI qualification.
  • A genuine interest in corporate governance, together with the maturity, professionalism and the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders.
