Job summary

Wychavon District Council seeks a Corporate Governance Manager to lead the governance and member support teams from Pershore, with travel to Malvern as required. The role supports the Director and Head of Legal and Governance in delivering a comprehensive governance service for two councils.

You will act as Deputy Monitoring Officer and handle member conduct processes. Applicants should have a degree in a related subject, substantial local authority experience, and proven ability to manage

Job description

Corporate Governance Manager

Up to £50,908 per annum (pro rata for part time). Depending on Qualifications and Experience

Up to 37 hours per week, with part time hours considered

We have a vacancy within the Legal and Governance team and we are looking for an individual who can demonstrate that they are keen and highly motivated, with excellent initiative, sound judgment and a flexible approach. You must have good energy, and enthusiasm with a real desire to join our small but busy in-house team and deal with a wide but interesting range of work.

The post will focus on assisting the Director of Legal and Governance and the Head of Legal and Governance in the delivery of a comprehensive corporate governance service to both Malvern Hills District Council and Wychavon District Council. This role will lead the member support team at Wychavon and the democratic services team in Malvern as well as providing advice and support to Wychavon’s Civic Administration Officer.

You will also act as Deputy Monitoring Officer and will assist the Monitoring Officer with processing and, where necessary, investigating all member conduct complaints.

This post will be based in Pershore, with travel to Malvern as required.

About you

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in a related subject

  • Significant experience of dealing with complaints and/or investigations
  • Significant experience of working in a local authority or public sector body
  • Significant experience of being involved in committees

In addition, the successful candidate will have the following skills:

  • Experience of leading and managing a team
  • The ability to read, understand and apply legislation, regulations and guidance
  • Proven ability to express issues clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing
  • Proven ability to deal with confidential and sensitive issues
  • Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and statutory time constraints

You will need to be hard working, an excellent team player and have a flexible and adaptable approach to work. Political awareness and sensitivity is also key in this role.
