Job description

Corporate Finance Technician

Fixed term to October 2027

Northumberland County Council's (NCC) vision is a ˜Land of Great Opportunities', for current and future generations. We believe there is no better place to live and work.

The Corporate Finance Team provides strategic and technical financial support across the Council, helping to ensure strong financial governance, effective resource management and compliance with statutory requirements. Working within a collaborative and professional team, this role supports a range of specialist Corporate Finance functions that are critical to the Council's financial resilience and long-term sustainability.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in specialist areas of local government finance whilst working closely with senior finance professionals and a range of internal and external stakeholders.

What you'll be doing:
  • Supporting the Council's Treasury Management function and Asset Valuation processes.
  • Managing reconciliations relating to the Council's lending and third-party financial arrangements.
  • Preparing and monitoring invoices, repayments, interest calculations and associated balance sheet accounting entries.
  • Supporting the management and reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts.
  • Assisting with year-end financial reporting and statutory accounting processes.
  • Providing administrative support for governance and decision-making processes, including minute taking and record management.
  • Uploading and processing journals and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Building effective working relationships with colleagues, subsidiaries, partners and external stakeholders.

We're looking for someone who is analytical, organised, and committed to delivering excellent service. You'll be able to interpret financial information, communicate effectively with a range of audiences, and use evidence to support decision-making.

What you'll bring:
  • A relevant finance qualification (AAT or equivalent) or demonstrable experience within a finance-related role.
  • Experience of financial reconciliations, accounting processes and financial record management.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience of working with complex financial data and spreadsheets.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy, governance and customer service
