Corporate and Schools Health and Safety Manager
Corporate Health & Safety Team
MM2 (£53,817 - £68,265)
We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated individual to manage health and safety across all corporate operations for the Council. As the Corporate and Schools Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of Council-owned buildings, schools, and other facilities, as well as the wellbeing of the public an d staff using these spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
Statutory Compliance and Professional Oversight: Deliver a robust, statutory service that prevents management failures, gross breaches of duty of care, or legal infringements. Identify weaknesses in existing systems and implement improvement plans with thorough follow-up and reporting.
Team Management: Provide direction and guidance to a team of specialist officers, ensuring that the Council meets its statutory health, safety, and welfare duties as an employer. Act as an advisor on all matters related to Health, Safety, and Welfare.
Risk-Based Activity Management: Oversee and carryout a comprehensive, risk-based program of audits, checks, training, and policy development for corporate buildings, schools, and other Council properties, ensuring high safety standards and continuous monitoring.
Engagement and Collaboration: Foster effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including trade unions, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and other partners.
About You:
The ideal candidate will have:
Extensive experience in a senior health and safety role within a large organisation, ideally within public sector or local government.
A thorough understanding of statutory health and safety obligations, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance.
Strong management skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team of health and safety specialists.
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to engage effectively with partners, stakeholders, and colleagues.
