Job summary

Serco Group Plc in the United Kingdom is recruiting a Core Tutor to deliver Maths or English programmes in our Justice and Immigration team, helping learners gain essential skills and recognised qualifications.

You'll support rehabilitation and personal growth, create opportunities for confidence building and re-engagement with education, and collaborate with prison colleagues to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment while pursuing ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Hold Level 3 AET or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Hold Level 3 AVRA or Assessing qualification (or equivalent).
• Experience delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.
• Committed to ongoing professional development and high teaching standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive teaching and learning programmes meeting individual learner needs.
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and ILPs, monitor progress and achievement.
• Assess learner work, provide constructive feedback and support certification outcomes.
• Act as personal tutor offering guidance, mentoring and pastoral support to remove barriers to education.
• Maintain accurate learner records, registers and documentation complying with awarding bodies and statutory requirements.
• Collaborate with education colleagues, prison teams and professionals to create a safe, supportive learning environment.
• Contribute to curriculum development, continuous improvement and professional development.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.

Job description

As a Core Tutor in our Justice and Immigration team, you'll deliver engaging Maths or English programmes that help learners develop essential skills, achieve recognised qualifications, and build brighter futures. Your work will support rehabilitation, personal growth, and positive outcomes for individuals in custody. Every day, you'll create opportunities for learners to gain confidence, improve literacy, numeracy and employability skills, and re-engage with education. What you'll do as a Core Tutor

• Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive teaching and learning programmes that meet individual learner needs.
• Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), monitoring learner progress and achievement.
• Assess learner work, provide constructive feedback and support successful accreditation and certification outcomes.
• Act as a personal tutor, providing guidance, mentoring and pastoral support to help learners overcome barriers to education.
• Maintain accurate learner records, registers and documentation while ensuring compliance with awarding body and statutory requirements.
• Work collaboratively with education colleagues, prison teams and other professionals to create a safe, supportive and effective learning environment.
• Contribute to curriculum development, continuous improvement activities and ongoing professional development.
• Hold a Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
• Hold a Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement (AVRA) or Assessor qualification.
• Have experience delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment.
• Be passionate about supporting learner development and creating positive outcomes for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrate excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
• Be committed to continuous professional development and maintaining high standards of teaching practice.
