Job summary

Vertiv Co in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland, seeks an experienced Copper Workshop Trainer to lead instruction, upskilling, and performance development of operators in copper busbar fabrication for switchgear and data center power solutions. Qualifications

• Competence in CNC punching for heavy-gauge copper plates and strips.
• Mastery of standard flat-axis busbar bending techniques, tolerances and spring-back.
• Advanced proficiency in radial/edgewise bending of copper bars without deformation.
• Expertise in edge-milling and beveling copper conductors to remove burrs and ensure fit.
• Experience configuring and using brick tooling blocks and dies for heavy‑duty fabrication.
• Strong proficiency in MS Word to compile SOPs/training manuals and MS Excel to manage competency matrices.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structured, practical training to new hires and existing staff on copper-processing machinery operations and safety.
• Instruct team members on interpreting electrical schematics, 3D drawings, and production sheets.
• Enforce health and safety protocols across the shop floor, with focus on guarding and PPE compliance.
• Teach quality testing protocols to ensure busbars meet engineering tolerances and data center guidelines.
• Maintain real-time digital training logs and assess team progress using standard computing tools.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Technical Trainer to lead the instruction, upskilling, and performance development of operators within our specialized Copper Workshop. In this role, you will be directly responsible for training personnel in the precise manufacturing and fabrication of high-conductivity copper busbars for our global switchgear and data center power solutions.

The ideal candidate will combine deep technical competence in industrial copper machining with the organizational skills required to maintain accurate digital training matrices.

Essential Criteria

Candidates must explicitly demonstrate competence, knowledge, and hands‑on experience in the following areas to be considered:

• CNC Punching: Full operational competence in programming, setting, and running CNC punching machinery tailored for heavy‑gauge copper plates and strips.
• Flat Bending: Mastery of standard flat‑axis busbar bending techniques, including managing material spring‑back and ensuring exact degree tolerances.
• Edgewise Bending: Advanced proficiency in radial or edgewise bending of copper bars along their strict narrow edge without causing material deformation or buckling.
• Chamfering: Expertise in edge‑milling and beveling copper conductors to eliminate burrs, smooth contact edges, and prepare components for optimal electrical fit.
• Use of Brick Tooling: Practical experience configuring, operating, and selecting specific tooling blocks and "brick" dies used for heavy‑duty metal fabrication.
• Microsoft Word & Excel: Strong proficiency in using MS Word to compile standard operating procedures (SOPs) or training manuals, and MS Excel to manage, track, and update team competency matrices.

Key Responsibilities

• Shop-Floor Training: Deliver structured, practical training to new hires and existing staff on the safe setup, operation, and troubleshooting of all copper-processing machinery.
• Technical Blueprint Translation: Instruct team members on how to accurately interpret electrical schematics, 3D mechanical drawings, and production sheets.
• Safety & Compliance: Enforce exact health and safety protocols across the floor, focusing on machine guarding, heavy material lifting, and proper PPE compliance.
• Quality Assurance: Teach quality testing protocols to ensure all fabricated busbars line up perfectly with engineering tolerances and strict data center build guidelines.
• Documentation & Administration: Maintain real-time digital training logs and assess team progress using standard computing tools.
