Position: Court of Protection Paralegal

Location: Central Manchester

Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Overview:

An esteemed boutique law firm in central Manchester is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Court of Protection Paralegal to join their specialist team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clients who lack mental capacity, providing essential support in managing their property and financial affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of deputyship applications to the Court of Protection.
  • Support fee earners in managing client matters, including drafting legal documents and correspondence.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files and records.
  • Liaise with clients, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information.
  • Conduct legal research on relevant legislation and case law.
  • Attend client meetings and court hearings as required, providing administrative support.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and other relevant regulations.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a paralegal, preferably within Court of Protection, private client, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Court of Protection procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work empathetically with vulnerable clients.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management systems.
  • Experience in property and affairs work within the Court of Protection.
  • Knowledge of statutory wills, gift applications, and deputyship reporting requirements.
