About Your Compensation

Compensation for this position starts at $20.00/hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn up to $23.00/hour.

About Your Work Day
  • Follows recipe cards, prepares food for menu items ensuring taste, presentation, and temperature of food.
  • Prepares kitchen for the shift including ingredients and equipment.
  • Monitors other cooks and culinary team members as requested.
  • Maintains food safety and a clean working environment.
  • Communicates with front‑of‑house managers on menu items and ingredients.
  • Properly stores, labels, and rotates products (FIFO).
  • Primarily works lunch and evening services in eight‑hour shifts; may be required to work weekends and may not receive two consecutive days off if full‑time.
  • May be required to inventory food station items nightly, weekly, or monthly and report to the Sous Chef or senior cook.
  • All other duties as assigned.
About the Referral Program

Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program offers a $500 referral bonus (after taxes) to active employees who refer a candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90 days from the first physical date of work. For seasonal positions less than 6 months, the new employee must remain employed for at least 30 days and through the closing date of the season (last Sunday in August).

About Your Schedule

Seasonal employment runs each summer from June to August, with possible pre‑season and post‑season work depending on business needs. Schedules include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Typical shifts are eight hours, with start times ranging 5 am to 5 pm. You will confirm your final schedule during the interview/offer process.

No employer‑provided housing is available for this position. Applicants should plan to secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.
