Job description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Camden to assist with the appointment of a Cook - Early Years, on a 2.5-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Cook to join our Early Years team, providing healthy, balanced, and culturally inclusive meals for children and staff at the centre. The role involves planning menus, purchasing ingredients, preparing and cooking meals, and ensuring all dietary, cultural, and religious requirements are met. The Cook will also maintain the highest standards of food hygiene and safety, supervise kitchen staff, and contribute to creating a positive mealtime experience for all.

Responsibilities:
  1. Act as key holder for the kitchen, unlocking in the morning and ensuring all necessary equipment is switched on and ready.
  2. Plan, prepare, cook, and serve daily meals and snacks, accommodating all dietary, cultural, and religious needs.
  3. Order and manage food supplies, ensuring stock is used within sell-by dates and waste is minimised.
  4. Maintain strict hygiene and safety standards, including regular cleaning of kitchen equipment, storage areas, and work surfaces.
  5. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and food hygiene regulations at all times.
  6. Hold a Food Hygiene Certificate.
  7. Have experience preparing and cooking meals for children and staff reflecting the multi-ethnic community.
  8. Possess experience in maintaining high hygiene standards.
  9. Have experience supervising kitchen staff on a daily basis.
  10. Be experienced working within strict budgets and catering deadlines.
