JOB PURPOSE

To assist the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor in all activities concerned with the preparation and cooking of meals. Team participation is essential to provide an efficient hygienic service, to achieve customer satisfaction, and to promote sales within the unit.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Perform skilled cooking activities related to a full range of meals, including assisting with menu preparation, portion control, providing special dietary meals, and catering for functions where appropriate.
  2. Assist with:
    1. Record keeping.
    2. Control of hygiene, health, and safety in the kitchen, including recording temperatures.
    3. The direction and/or shared supervision of other employees.
  3. Undertake operational control of service points, including transported meals.
  4. Handle associated administrative duties, which may include assistance with:
    1. Meal planning.
    2. Stock-taking, organization of stores and fridges, and receipt of deliveries.
    3. General kitchen management in the absence of the Senior/Unit Catering Supervisor.
    4. Shared supervision of staff.
    5. Staff training.
    6. Cash handling duties where appropriate.
  5. Perform general kitchen duties as required, such as washing up, setting up and clearing equipment and tables, and cleaning the kitchen, dining room surrounds, and equipment.
  6. Assist in promoting the service to parents, principals, and customers to increase uptake.
  7. Secure premises as required.
  8. Carry out duties delegated in connection with service provision.

  2. All duties will be performed in normal working conditions inherent to the job.
  3. Complete all necessary administrative tasks as required.
  4. Duties may include jobs up to and including the same grade, provided they are within the employee's competence.
