Job summary

Wallace Hall Academy is seeking a positive, hands-on Cook 1 to fuel pupils with fresh, tasty meals. The role is 12.5 hours per week over 38 weeks per year, Monday to Friday, 11:45am–2:15pm, with a starting hourly rate of £13.74.

No prior experience is required as full training will be provided; Basic Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness training are included. PVG scheme checks apply for positions working with children.

  • Light food preparation including baking / cooker tops.
  • Serve meals to pupils in a school dining setting.
  • Setting up and decanting of dining room.
  • Setting up service area and related circulation tasks.
  • Cash handling as and when required.
  • Dishwashing and general kitchen duties.
  • Clearing down and cleaning kitchens and staff rest areas.
  • Carry out electronic paperwork.

You will be required to work 12.50 hours per week, 38 Weeks per year.

Monday - Friday

Working Times: 11:45am - 14:15pm

£13.74 starting hourly rate

We're looking for a positive, hands on General Assistant (Cook 1) to help fuel our pupils with fresh, tasty meals every day. You must be an energetic and enthusiastic person that will carry out the following tasks:

  • Light food preparation including baking / cooker tops
  • Serve meals
  • Setting up and decanting of dining room
  • Setting up service area
  • Cash handling as and when required
  • Dishwashing and General kitchen duties
  • Clearing down and cleaning kitchens and staff rest areas
  • Carry out electronic paperwork

Experience is not necessary as full training will be given if required.

You will also be given Basic Food Hygiene and Allergen Awareness training.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
