Job description

Cook GBP13.37 per hour & great benefits.

Full-time position available at 42.5 hours per week, working within Monday to Sunday, 5:00am to 9:00pm, with a degree of flexibility required. Kilkeel, Greencastle Street.

A look into the role: Our Greencastle Street store in Kilkeel will be a hub of activity, offering convenience, value, and excellent customer service to our local community and visitors. The store will feature a wide range of grocery, fresh, and frozen produce, including an impressive deli and specialist butcher. The anticipated store relaunch will be in Spring 2025. We are looking for a dedicated candidate to lead our hardworking and friendly team, assisting the chef in the safe and hygienic preparation and production of high-quality meals, maintaining high hygiene standards, and keeping the prep and service areas clean. You will be supported by a team of talented individuals, with excellent career development and progression opportunities.

As a Cook, you will:

  • Set up workstations with all necessary ingredients and equipment.
  • Check the quality of ingredients and report concerns to the Chef.
  • Prepare ingredients for cooking (peeling, chopping vegetables, and cutting meat as required).
  • Follow recipes and methods strictly to ensure high quality and consistency.
  • Portion, arrange, and garnish food according to specifications.
  • Cook food using various utensils and appliances.
  • Maintain health & safety, security, discipline, and due diligence at all times.
  • Conduct food safety control checks and record standards maintained.
  • Prepare and cook food in line with company procedures and health regulations.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen area.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative demands related to fire, health, hygiene, and safety.
  • Receive goods ensuring legislative requirements, quality, and shelf life standards are met.
  • Implement effective stock rotation to minimize waste.
  • Assist with stock control, stocktaking, and ordering.
  • Support team members with other duties as required.

Skills for Success:

  • Good education and communication skills, ability to work under pressure, multitask, follow instructions, and pay attention to detail.
  • At least 2 years' experience in a catering environment.
  • Experience in food preparation of various types.
  • Knowledge of food safety practices, with a minimum Level 2 qualification in Food Safety.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to meet KPIs such as sales, costs, and profitability.
  • You must be aged 18 or over, in accordance with store legislative requirements.
