Job summary

Maxwell Hodge is seeking a Legal Assistant with 1–2 years' residential conveyancing experience to support our Property Team. You will perform admin tasks, open files, draft and edit documents, and be the main point of contact for clients and third parties.

The role is based at the Huyton Office, with 9:00–17:00 hours, Monday–Friday. The team values wellbeing, learning, and impactful client care, offering a supportive environment and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years’ experience in residential conveyancing preferred.
  • Excellent typing and MS Office skills.
  • Strong communication and telephone manner.

Responsibilities

  • Attend clients in person and by telephone to take instructions.
  • Open new files and prepare initial client care documentation.
  • Assist with drafting, proofreading and editing letters and documents.
  • Conduct basic legal research as required.
  • Manage Fee Earner diaries and schedule meetings/appointments.
  • Assist with progression of matters, including property searches.
  • Prepare SDLTs and post-completion tasks such as Land Registry filings.
  • Maintain thorough file notes and keep matter files organized.

Experience: 2+ years residential conveyancing experience – advantageous.

Salary: up to £24,000 FTE

Hours: 9.00am-5.00pm, Monday-Friday.

Working at least 3 days if part-time.

Location: Huyton Office (26 Sherborne Square L36 9UR)

As a Legal Assistant you will ideally have at least 1-2 years’ experience in residential conveyancing to work with fee earners in our Property Team to provide an efficient and quality service. You will carry out administrative and legal tasks and be the main point of contact for clients and third parties. With strong ties to the local community, you will have the opportunity to contribute to business development and community engagement.

Skills, Qualities and Knowledge Required
  • Strong typing skills and proficiency in MS Office.

Key Duties
  • Attend upon clients and others in person and by telephone to take instructions.
  • Open new files on the case management system and prepare initial client care documentation.
  • Assist with document preparation, including drafting, proofreading, and editing correspondence/documents. This may include drafting completion statements and AP1s, TR1s, TR2s, Contracts.
  • Conduct basic legal research as and when required.
  • Manage Fee Earner diaries and schedule meetings/appointments, including diarising important reminders.
  • Assist with matter progression such as ordering searches on properties.
  • Liaise with clients and third parties and keep clients updated.
  • Prepare and submit SDLTs and undertake post-completion tasks such as Land Registry applications.
  • Undertake and deal with exchanges and completions at the approval/request of Fee Earners.
  • Maintain detailed file/attendance/phone notes for client/third party communications.
  • Keep files organised by ensuring all post is scanned/saved to the matter and labelled accordingly, flagging items that require Fee Earner attention.
  • Action next steps in the case management system and assist with progression of matters such as general chasers to third parties when awaiting receipt of documents.
  • General administration duties such as scanning post onto the system and saving this to the correct matter.
Salary, Holidays and Benefits
  • The salary for this role is up to £24,000 FTE depending on experience.
  • Annual holiday entitlement in a full calendar year is 20 days (pro rata if part-time), increasing yearly to 25 days by 5 years’ service. This is in addition to bank holidays and an extra 3 days to be used between Christmas and New Year.
