Job summary

Executive Network Group in Birmingham is seeking a Control Systems Engineer for a global friction welding manufacturer. You will design and support industrial control panels, program PLCs and HMIs, and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver projects on time.

The role includes travel to customer sites, international assignments, and a strong emphasis on technical documentation and real-time control systems. A hands-on engineer with a solid design background will fit well.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with industrial PLC and HMI programming platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley).
  • Experience integrating motion control and drive systems across industrial environments.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP or PROFINET.
  • Knowledge of IEC 61131-based programming.
  • Experience with additional programming languages (C++, C#, JavaScript) is advantageous.
  • Exposure to real-time or embedded control systems is desirable.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation across the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement software for industrial control systems within automation, robotics, and machinery environments.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and real-time motion control systems for hydraulic and electric drive applications.
  • Integrate systems across devices and communication protocols (industrial Ethernet networks).
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications and test procedures.
  • Support commissioning activities at customer sites, including international travel.
  • Contribute to the full software lifecycle from requirements to deployment.
  • Assist with additional tasks to support project delivery.

A global friction welding manufacturer is looking for a Control Systems Engineer to join their team based in the Birmingham area

The ideal candidate will be a hard-working and adaptable Engineer with a strong design background. Operating at the Birmingham site, you will be responsible for the design and technical support of industrial control panels and more

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement software for industrial control systems within automation, robotics, and machinery environments.
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, and real-time motion control systems for both hydraulic and electric drive applications.
  • Integrate systems across multiple devices and communication protocols (e.g. industrial Ethernet networks).
  • Produce comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, design details, and test procedures.
  • Support commissioning activities at customer sites, including occasional international travel and short-notice assignments.
  • Contribute to the full software lifecycle, including requirements definition, design, testing, and deployment.
  • Assist with additional tasks as required to support overall project delivery and team objectives.
