Job summary

Refresco UK is seeking a Control & Automation Engineer for our Kegworth manufacturing site. The role focuses on championing hardware and software automation standards across the site, with responsibility for PLC, HMI and networked control systems.

The successful candidate will drive improvements in reliability, performance and energy efficiency, while supporting capital projects and automation upgrades within Refresco engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Proactive and technically capable automation professional with a strong electrical engineering background.
• Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to influence and coach engineering teams and share knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Act as the site automation lead, providing technical expertise on PLC, HMI and networked control systems.
• Maintain and develop automation standards, software backup strategies and critical automation assets to minimise operational risk.
• Support capital projects, equipment installations and automation upgrades in line with Refresco standards.
• Identify and deliver automation improvements to enhance plant reliability, performance and energy efficiency.
• Evaluate automation obsolescence risks and develop upgrade strategies for long-term site performance.
• Develop engineering capability through coaching, training and knowledge sharing.

About The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Control & Automation Engineer will champion hardware and software automation standards across the site.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Acting as the site automation lead, providing technical expertise and support on PLC, HMI and networked control systems.
• Maintaining and developing automation standards, software backup strategies and critical automation assets to minimise operational risk.
• Supporting capital projects, equipment installations and automation upgrades, ensuring compliance with Refresco engineering standards.
• Identifying and delivering automation improvements that enhance plant reliability, performance and energy efficiency.
• Evaluating automation obsolescence risks and developing upgrade strategies to support long-term site performance.
• Developing engineering capability through coaching, training and knowledge sharing, building in-house expertise and reducing reliance on external support.
