Job summary

Aggreko is seeking a Controls System Design Engineer to lead the integration and delivery of bespoke control systems across our UK depots. You will develop PLC and HMI applications using CODESYS, configure standard controls, and ensure high-quality software is produced and tested before release to projects.

The role requires strong fault-finding, technical communication, and experience with Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or CAN networks within industrial automation.

Qualifications

• Experience in developing PLC applications with CODESYS or IEC 61131-3.
• Proficient in operator interfaces (HMI/SCADA).
• Understanding of industrial automation and electrical control systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and functional specifications.
• Knowledge of Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet/IP, Profinet or CAN networks.
• Experience selecting and integrating control hardware, I/O and networking equipment.
• Strong fault-finding and analytical skills.

Job description

Bring your energy to Aggreko as a Controls System Design Engineer, based anywhere in the UK within a commutable distance of one of our established depots. You'll lead the integration and delivery of complex, bespoke control systems. You'll be instrumental in developing standardized PLC and HMI applications using CODESYS, providing advanced technical expertise to ensure seamless system performance and enhanced customer outcomes across our temporary power, hybrid energy, and microgrid projects. What you'll do as a Controls System Design Engineer:

• Develop PLC and HMI applications using CODESYS and the company's standard software libraries.
• Configure standard controls solutions to meet individual project requirements.
• Produce high-quality, maintainable and well-documented application software.
• Validate and test solutions before release to projects.

You are:

• Experienced in developing PLC applications using CODESYS or another IEC 61131-3 compliant platform.
• Proficient in developing operator interfaces (HMI/SCADA).
• Knowledgeable with a good understanding of industrial automation and electrical control systems.
• Technically capable with an ability to interpret electrical schematics, control philosophies and functional specifications.
• Knowledgeable in industrial communications such as Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet/IP, Profinet or CAN-based networks.
• Experienced in selecting and integrating industrial control hardware, I/O and networking equipment.
• Highly analytical with strong fault-finding skills.
• An excellent communicator with the ability to provide technical support to engineering teams remotely.
