Job summary

Northwood Consuma Tissue Ltd is seeking a highly capable Controls & Instrumentation Technician to support Disley facility with technical expertise, ensuring asset reliability and process control. You will install, calibrate and maintain instrumentation onsite, and contribute to project delivery.

The role focuses on developing standards, managing CMMS, and driving efficiency through CI practices, with a strong emphasis on PLC IO, SCADA/DCS, and instrumentation maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Problem solving and fault finding in a complex automated environment.
  • Safety and environmental knowledge applicable to manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies.
  • Broad experience with PLC IO and fault finding; familiarity with SCADA/DCS systems.
  • Broad instrumentation experience across various devices and sensors.
  • Experience delivering multiple projects to challenging time frames.
  • Ability to read technical drawings to support maintenance and installation.
  • Experience wiring electrical and pneumatic panels.

Responsibilities

  • Developing Run 2 Standards (R2S) to support electrical team development and process control.
  • Managing work orders, maintenance requests and the CMMS system, ensuring timely completion.
  • Collaborating with the spares department to perform maintenance efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Carrying out monthly failure analysis for instrumentation issues.
  • Ensuring electrical expenditure delivers good value.
  • Planning and scheduling maintenance to maximise plant efficiency.
  • Researching and implementing innovative solutions for production equipment and efficiency.

Job description

Primarily, this role will provide Disley facility with technical expertise and support, developing the organisation, equipment, technology, and site standards to maintain product consistency, equipment reliability, and maximise asset capability.

You will also be responsible for installation, calibration, and maintenance of instrumentation onsite, and be involved in project delivery!

As a Controls & Instrumentation Technician here at Northwood, here’s what your day to day will look like:

  • Developing the Run 2 Standards (R2S) system to support the development of the electrical team, and ensure process variables are controlled.
  • Managing work orders, maintenance requests, and our CMMS system, ensuring timely completion.
  • Collaborating with the spares department to ensure maintenance activities are performed efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Carrying out monthly failure analysis for instrumentation issues.
  • Ensuring electrical expenditure returns good value.
  • Ensuring planning and scheduling of maintenance activities are carried out effectively to maximise plant efficiency.
  • Regularly identify and research innovative solutions to underpin optimal operation of production equipment, and improved efficiency.
Job Requirements

  • Broad experience of all types of instrumentation.

  • Experience of electrical and pneumatic panel wiring.
Ideal attributes (but not essential):
  • HNC or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years’ experience in maintaining complex automated manufacturing equipment
