Automation & Controls Engineer – PLC

Salary Range: £40,000 – £50,000 + Benefits

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Milton Keynes

An expanding engineering and automation solutions provider is seeking an intermediate Controls Engineer to support increased project demand.

The successful candidates will take ownership of automation projects across the full lifecycle—from design and programming to system integration and final commissioning—offering both office-based and onsite involvement.

Role Overview
  • Deliver end-to-end automation solutions, including design, programming, and commissioning
  • Work closely with project teams and customers to understand requirements and deliver tailored systems
  • Design and develop control panels and automation architecture
  • Write and troubleshoot PLC, HMI, and motion control software
  • Carry out functional testing and support system commissioning onsite when required
  • Generate relevant documentation including technical reports, wiring diagrams, and manuals
Skills & Experience Required
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs and HMIs (e.g. Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, or Trio)
  • Exposure to robotic systems (e.g. ABB, Yaskawa) is a strong advantage
  • Strong understanding of motion control, servo systems, and industrial automation principles
  • Competency in electrical design tools such as EPlan, AutoCAD Electrical, or AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic system integration
  • Able to manage individual workload, work to deadlines, and support wider project teams
  • Willing to travel internationally for short periods (max 4 weeks at a time)
