Controls Engineer



Shift-based | Permanent | Excellent Package + Progression


Major Recruitment are proudly supporting a large global manufacturer in Cardiff who are investing heavily in their site and technology. As part of this growth, we're looking for experienced Controls Engineers to join the team, providing critical support across automation, PLCs, SCADA, and site electrical control systems.


This is a hands-on, shift-based role ideal for someone passionate about solving problems, maintaining system up time, and optimising modern manufacturing equipment.


The Role:



  • Provide technical support for all site automation and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and historian software.


  • Diagnose and resolve breakdowns related to PLC and process control systems, reducing third-party reliance.


  • Maintain and improve key industrial components: sensors, valves, industrial PCs, drives, instrumentation, etc.


  • Work across Ethernet, Modbus, Profibus, ControlNet, and other network protocols.


  • Lead or support PPM and continuous improvement projects, ensuring full system availability and performance.


  • Act as a site competent person (C2) for electrical control systems, supporting safety compliance and system integrity.


  • Contribute to the training and development of engineering and cross-functional teams.


About You:



  • Strong working knowledge of PLCs (Siemens ), SCADA, HMI, and process instrumentation.


  • Confident in fault-finding, code backup, system configuration, and upgrading controls infrastructure.


  • Experience working with low voltage and extra-low voltage systems in a manufacturing environment.


  • Familiarity with tools such as SAP, MES, Wonderware, and industrial IT networks is a plus.

  • A collaborative, problem-solving mindset and a passion for technical excellence.
