Job summary

Owen Daniels in Birmingham is seeking a hands-on Controls / Automation Engineer to join a highly automated manufacturing operation that has moved from NPI into high‑volume production.

You will be responsible for supporting equipment, resolving faults and driving continuous improvement across PLCs, HMI, sensors, servo and motion systems, robotics and commissioning. A focus on reliability, throughput and OEE will guide improvements.

Qualifications

• Experience with any major PLC platform (Beckhoff, Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley or Mitsubishi).
• Hands-on controls/automation experience; able to work in PLC logic.
• Experience in high-volume manufacturing (auto, plastics or FMCG) advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on role supporting equipment, resolving faults and driving continuous improvement.
• PLC programming, fault-finding & modifications across systems.
• Work with HMI, sensors, servo & motion systems, robotics, commissioning & optimisation.
• Conduct root-cause analysis to improve reliability, throughput and OEE.

Controls / Automation Engineer Birmingham | £50,000–£70,000 | Permanent | Days

We’re looking for a Controls / Automation Engineer to join a growing, highly automated manufacturing operation that has recently moved from NPI into high-volume production.

This is a fast-paced environment with extensive PLC, robotics, sensors, motion control, inspection and automated handling.

The Role

You’ll be hands‑on, supporting the equipment, resolving faults and driving continuous improvement.

You’ll work across:

• PLC programming, fault‑finding & modifications
• HMI, sensors, servo and motion systems
• Robotics and automated equipment
• Commissioning and optimisation
• Root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement
• Improving reliability, throughput and OEE

About You

We’re open to experience across any major PLC platform, including Beckhoff, Siemens, Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley or Mitsubishi.

You’ll need strong practical Controls / Automation experience and be comfortable getting into the PLC logic rather than simply identifying faults.

Experience in high-volume manufacturing, automotive, plastics or FMCG would be advantageous.
