Job summary

Legal & General is seeking a Controls Effectiveness Specialist to support the delivery of our control effectiveness programme within the Retail business. You’ll carry out control reviews and testing, gathering evidence and providing objective assessments of whether key controls are operating as intended.

Working with stakeholders across Retail, you’ll identify weaknesses and support practical improvements that strengthen the control environment and help deliver positive customer outcomes.

Qualifications

• Familiar with risk and control frameworks and governance structures.
• Experience supporting controls testing, assurance, risk or audit activities.
• Ability to gather and evaluate evidence to form conclusions.
• Ability to document findings, recommendations and outcomes clearly.
• Experience identifying control weaknesses and improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver control effectiveness reviews following established methodologies and plans.
• Perform walkthroughs, sampling, validation, testing and reperformance activities.
• Review control design and operating evidence to ensure proper functioning.
• Identify weaknesses or gaps requiring further investigation and remediation.
• Prepare working papers, testing documentation and evidence-based findings.
• Monitor remediation activities arising from control reviews.
• Suggest improvements to enhance review quality, efficiency and value.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to obtain evidence and provide constructive challenge.

Job Description

We’re looking for a Controls Effectiveness Specialist to support the delivery of our control effectiveness programme across the Retail business. You’ll carry out control reviews and testing, providing an objective assessment of whether key controls are operating as intended

Working collaboratively with stakeholders across Retail, you’ll gather and evaluate evidence, identify potential weaknesses and support practical improvements that strengthen the control environment and help deliver positive customer outcomes

What you’ll be doing

• Delivering control effectiveness reviews in line with agreed methodologies, standards and review plans
• Undertaking walkthroughs, sampling, validation, testing and reperformance activities
• Reviewing control design and operating evidence to assess whether controls are performing as intended
• Identifying potential control weaknesses, gaps and failures requiring further investigation
• Preparing clear working papers, testing documentation and evidence‑based findings
• Monitoring and validating remediation activity arising from control reviews
• Identifying opportunities to improve review quality, efficiency and overall value
• Collaborating with stakeholders to obtain evidence, facilitate reviews and provide constructive challenge

What we’re looking for

• A good understanding of risk and control frameworks
• Experience supporting controls testing, assurance, risk, compliance, audit or governance activity
• Knowledge of control effectiveness and testing methodologies
• Experience gathering, analysing and evaluating evidence
• The ability to document findings, recommendations and review outcomes clearly
• Experience identifying control weaknesses, process gaps or improvement opportunities
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a considered approach to constructive challenge
• A relevant professional qualification in risk, audit, compliance or accounting would be beneficial but is not essential
