Overview

Job Title: Controls & Automation Technician

We have a requirement for a Controls & Automation Technician/Commissioning Engineer to work on Water and Wastewater projects across Ireland and the UK. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established contractor. The successful candidate will join the Murphy Water engineering business within the Automation & Controls Department reporting to the Automation & Controls Team Manager.

Qualifications

Candidate must be a qualified Electrician with a L6 National Craft Certificate, (Electrical or Instrumentation).

Role Duties
  • Reporting to the Automation & Controls Team Manager
  • Onsite validation and commissioning of PLC based electrical control systems and instrumentation
  • Electrical equipment onsite commissioning
  • Checking and testing electrical and instrumentation MCC panels
  • Checking electrical and instrumentation MCC panel wiring schematics
  • Coordinate with all electrical and mechanical personnel to achieve project deadlines
  • Fault diagnostics and modification to existing electrical control and automation systems
  • Factory Acceptance Tests on control panels to ensure compliance with approved documentation
  • Site Acceptance Tests and system sign off with client representative
  • Monitoring and optimisation of instrumentation, PLC’s, and electrical control systems
  • Preparation of technical specifications and supervision of sub-contractors
  • Generate controls documentation including FDS and I/O lists to meet project specifications
  • Checking electrical and instrumentation control panel wiring schematics
  • Responsible for ensuring all electrical and instrumentation installations on projects assigned are installed in accordance with relevant standards
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the company procedures observing proper health and safety
Skills / Experience
  • Motivated, self-starter with excellent communications skills
  • Minimum 5 years electrical experience in an industrial / process electrical commissioning role
  • Strong Technical problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • PLC & HMI programming experience desirable
  • Experience within the Water / Wastewater industry a distinct advantage
