We are currently recruiting for a Controls System Technician onsite at Grain to ensure the safe and reliable operation of Grain LNG’s assets through efficient maintenance of the terminal control and safety systems, including operation, modification, and maintenance activities.

As a Controls System Technician, you will be responsible for the safe and timely completion of duties related to Control System equipment, including maintenance, fault investigation, equipment repair, minor operational project delivery, and assistance with commissioning activities, to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

The role is based onsite at Grain (Kent). Due to the location, you must be able to drive there and hold a full clean license.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Collaborate with Process, Commercial operations, stakeholders, and contractors to maximize efficiency through the annual plan.
  2. Identify training needs within your area to ensure competence and flexibility for current and future workloads.
  3. Maintain data records to support management and regulatory reporting of KPIs.
  4. Keep detailed records of system changes.
  5. Ensure safety and process-critical system availability and reliability.
  6. Participate in standby and emergency response activities as per the terminal’s EIMS.
  7. Supervise contract personnel during projects or maintenance.
  8. Perform work independently, including in remote locations within the site.
  9. Adhere to safety guidelines, including Golden Rules, and complete necessary documentation such as MoC, NRO, PTW.
About you

We seek individuals who are current or potential experts in their field, with qualities including:

  • Innovative thinking and understanding of gas plant and machinery.
  • Customer focus and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Fault-finding experience.
  • Field control and instrumentation expertise.
  • Experience with ICSS, PLCs, SCADA, DCS systems.
  • Knowledge of safety systems like Emergency Shutdown, HIPPS, Fire & Gas detection.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as COMAH, ATEX, DSEAR, EMMUA 191, BS EN 61508, BS EN 61511, UKAS.
  • Cybersecurity fundamentals for Industrial Automated Control Systems.
  • Post-apprenticeship control systems experience in pharmaceutical or petrochemical environments is advantageous.
  • Experience in project development within IACS environment is a bonus.
