Job description

*Control Systems Engineer with PLC control systems and SCADA*

Are you eager to work in a highly regulated defence environment? This position is based in Surrey with a salary to be confirmed.

We are seeking skilled engineers for a role that offers the unique opportunity to design, develop, and maintain cutting-edge PLC and HCI solutions for naval platform management systems deployed on the UK submarine fleet.

This role is ideal for engineers familiar with Siemens PLCs and large infrastructure SCADA solutions, with a focus on functional safety and product security.

Our work is critical to the modern backbone of the Royal Navy, involving the development and support of UK-wide and internationally deployed multi-domain command and control systems.

Responsibilities:
  1. Capture, interpret, and develop customer requirements.
  2. Produce technical documentation in accordance with company and customer procedures.
  3. Specify, design, and test solutions for PLC control systems.
  4. Manage data communications with third-party equipment.
  5. Develop PLC software from multiple design formats such as block diagrams, flow charts, or pseudo code.
  6. Validate software designs through analysis and testing.
  7. Support the preparation of contract changes and proposals.
  8. Ensure compliance with company standards of conduct and all relevant statutory requirements.
  9. Provide input to project meetings and team briefings.
  10. Undertake any other reasonable tasks as requested.
Benefits:

Flexible and hybrid working options, including an optional compressed schedule with every other Friday off. Benefits include private healthcare, career development opportunities, and performance bonuses.

We are looking for:
  • Experience in the design and integration of large-scale PLC control systems based on Siemens S7-300/400 (Step 7 Professional Classic).
  • Experience with fault-tolerant, high-availability, and safety-integrated PLC solutions.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, ModBus, TCP/IP, UDP, and ASCII.
  • Ability to produce technical documentation.
  • Experience with SCADA/PLC interfacing and driver configuration.
  • Understanding of software development life cycles, processes, and procedures.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a PLC engineering environment.
  • Understanding of testing and commissioning processes.
  • A degree, HNC, HND, or equivalent in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline such as CI engineering or Systems engineering.
  • Experience within Defence, Maritime (ship machinery and control systems), Aerospace, or similarly regulated sectors (e.g., Oil & Gas, Pharma, PetroChem).
