Job DescriptionControl Systems Engineer (C&I) Derby, Raynesway Rolls-Royce Submarines Full-time | Permanent

We're seeking a skilled Control Systems Engineer (C&I) to help us deliver high-integrity control systems that meet exacting performance and safety standards. You will work as a control systems engineer within our product development team, collaborating with stakeholders to understand high-level system requirements and refining these requirements for hardware, software, and electronic product design. You will work closely with our product owners and development teams who use agile Scrum methods to develop high-integrity software and FPGA-based applications, adopting the latest state-of-the-art toolsets. Training will be provided to equip you with the necessary skills to develop system requirements and architecture essential for the protection and monitoring of a nuclear propulsion plant.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. Specify product level requirements and coordinate with design teams and vendors to ensure these are met.
  2. Refine high-level system requirements for hardware, software, and electronic product design.
  3. Collaborate with product owners and development teams using agile Scrum to develop software and FPGA applications.
  4. Manage system requirements, including traceability, through product maturity gates.
  5. Verify final product design against system requirements.
  6. Engage across Rolls-Royce to enhance systems engineering capabilities.
  7. Contribute to process improvements and product quality audits.
  8. Understand controls engineering technologies and allocate requirements accordingly.
  9. Work with Product Owners to define product specifications against system requirements.

What we're looking for:

  • Degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in architecture design, V&V, and requirements analysis.
  • Experience in FPGA design and development (e.g., VHDL or Verilog).
  • Knowledge of PLC development and industrial control systems (e.g., Siemens).
  • Proven experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Awareness of safety-critical development standards (e.g., DO-178B/C, IEC60880, IEC61508).
