Job summary

Meridian Business Support is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to join a successful engineering team in the UK. You will design and implement control systems, collaborating with OEMs to ensure compliance and market readiness across the UK and EU.

You will lead testing, tuning and project activities for machine tools and automation systems, while producing clear technical documentation and reports. Strong PLC, commissioning and drawing-reading skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or STEM degree required.
  • PLC programming, commissioning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes).
  • Experience with CNC machine tools or industrial automation is desirable.
  • Knowledge of UK and EU machinery and control system regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical control systems for machine tools, including electrical drawings and SOPs.
  • Lead system optimisation, including control tuning and performance enhancements.
  • Lead testing and validation of control systems.
  • Lead projects with new machine installations and feature integrations.
  • Provide technical support to Quality, Production and Service teams for electrical issues.

Control Systems Engineer
The Opportunity

Join a successful engineering team and work on the development of next‑generation machine tooling equipment. You will play a key role in the design and implementation of new control systems, collaborating with OEMs to ensure functionality, regulatory compliance and market readiness across the UK and EU.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical control systems for machine tools, including electrical drawings, technical documentation, SOPs and work instructions.
  • Lead system optimisation activities, including control system tuning and performance enhancement.
  • Lead testing and validation of control systems.
  • Lead projects involving new machine installations, control system developments, upgrades and integration of optional machine features.
  • Provide technical expertise to Quality, Production and Service teams for diagnosing and resolving electrical and control system issues.
Preferred Skills
  • HNC, HND or degree in a STEM discipline.
  • PLC programming, commissioning and troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Competence with electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes and similar tools.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, engaging effectively with colleagues, customers, suppliers and OEM partners.
  • Experience producing clear and concise technical reports and documentation.
  • Experience working with CNC machine tools or industrial automation systems.
  • Knowledge of UK and EU regulatory requirements related to machinery and control systems.
Benefits and Hours of Work
  • Hours of Work: 07:45 – 17:00 Mon to Thurs, 08:30 – 12:30 Fri (39 hrs).
