Job Description Summary

Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition.

As a Control and Protection System Application Engineer, you will report to the Control and Protection System Application Manager.

The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers working on system requirements, design, and performance verification of Control & Protection functions for LCC and VSC HVDC schemes. The development of such systems involves multiple engineering disciplines, teamwork, and innovation.

You will study existing designs in MATLAB / Simulink and transfer them to PSCAD across the full delivery cycle, including plant model design, verification, testing, documentation, and evaluation.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support tendering, operations, contractual, and after-sales needs.
  • Model HVDC systems in PSCAD.
  • Model and validate AC networks using simulation tools like PSCAD.
  • Conduct dynamic performance and protection coordination studies.
  • Convert PSS/E AC networks and MATLAB algorithms to PSCAD models.
  • Perform design reviews, identify risks, and propose solutions.
  • Understand project milestones, financial impacts, and mitigate technical risks.
  • Improve algorithms/strategies for fault recovery and stability issues.
  • Develop new control, protection, and sequencing strategies as needed.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements
  • Engineering degree or equivalent with power systems and electronics knowledge or proven HVDC experience.
  • Ability to identify and manage technical risks with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Understanding of customer requirements.
  • Knowledge of power system interactions, HVDC control, protection, and sequencing.
  • Familiarity with PSCAD and other simulation tools.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Flexibility to work hours and travel globally.
Desired Characteristics
  • Ability to define and adhere to requirements best practices.
  • Experience in HVDC industry.
  • Familiarity with power system study tools like Power Factory, PSS/E, ETAP, EMTDC RV.
  • Experience leading technical discussions and developing client relationships.
