Engineering Coordinator

Location: Southampton

We are looking for an organised and proactive Engineering Coordinator to join our team. Reporting within a matrix structure to the Site Maintenance Managers, you will be responsible for the safe and successful management of all subcontractor works.

Job Description

Central to this role is the ownership and implementation of the client’s work authorisation and permit-to-work processes, ensuring that all activities are conducted safely and in full compliance with established procedures.

You will take a diligent and proactive approach to governance, ensuring that all necessary subcontractor information and control measures are in place before any work begins.

Additionally, you will oversee adherence to security escorting guidelines, ensuring that these standards are consistently maintained across all operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Supervise contractors onsite, including booking and escorting them while maintaining security guidelines
  2. Manage workload distribution across sites based on demand
  3. Support with booking subcontractors, reviewing paperwork, and evaluating risk assessments
  4. Assist the engineering team with logbooks, compliance tasks, and processes such as site security arrangements
  5. Conduct ad-hoc inspections as needed
  6. Handle subcontractor prequalification, risk assessment and method statement reviews, and deliver inductions
  7. Issue work authorisations and permits to ensure safe work delivery onsite
  8. Liaise with subcontractor groups and account stakeholders to ensure timely work authorisations and permits in line with procedures
  9. Plan and prioritise works in collaboration with stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency
  10. Proactively obtain and review subcontractor H&S information, ensuring all risks and controls are robustly addressed before work begins
  11. Audit and inspect subcontractor work to ensure compliance with procedures and legislation while promoting continuous improvement
  12. Investigate and report subcontractor violations or non-conformances, driving corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  13. Provide compliance reporting to ensure operational transparency and identify improvement opportunities
  14. Build strong relationships with subcontractors to foster trust, collaboration, and adherence to standards

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

  1. Previous experience in a similar role with solid knowledge of M&E disciplines and associated legislative/statutory requirements
  2. IOSH Managing Safely and NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (ideally held or working towards)
  3. Proven experience in managing subcontractor groups operationally and safely to prevent undesirable outcomes
  4. Ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and subcontractor groups
  5. Comfortable working in a fast-paced and reactive environment
  6. Strong communication skills with the ability to inspire confidence
  7. Technical knowledge from a Facilities Management or other technical background
