Job summary

Evari is seeking an exceptional Embedded Controls Engineer to develop real-time embedded control software for multi-motor drive systems. You will own firmware, real-time control algorithms, and integration layers across high-speed equipment, coordinating with third-party vendors to meet latency requirements.

The role requires strong embedded C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and experience with CAN; you will work with cross-functional teams to deliver high-performance products and drive robust diagnostics

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, programming, and testing electrical control systems for automated products, systems, and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with embedded controllers.
  • Working knowledge of power electronics and motor drive architecture.
  • Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++ for real-time control, with Python for scripting, tooling, and data analysis.
  • Strong proficiency with MATLAB Simulink and Simscape for model-based control design (or similar tools).
  • Automatic code generation experience - ideally using Raptor or OpenECU.
  • Experience with model based software.
  • Hands-on experience with CAN for motor drive communication.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement real-time embedded control firmware that orchestrates multiple motor drives and manages high-speed compressor operation across Evari products.
  • Determine the optimal control architecture
  • Develop, model, and validate control algorithms using MATLAB Simulink and Simscape
  • Specify motor drive requirements, performance targets, and communication interfaces to third-party drive vendors and OEM partners; collaborate with them to define control interfaces and, where necessary, influence or define low-level drive firmware to meet system latency and responsiveness needs.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, encoders, resolvers, and other feedback devices into the control architecture
  • Conduct system testing, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineering, software engineering, and manufacturing, to define system requirements and ensure successful product integration.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to maintenance, engineering, and manufacturing personnel, and train them in new or improved technologies.

Job description

At Evari, we are deeply passionate about making a positive impact on global climate challenges and remain optimistic about the role of clean-tech progress in shaping a sustainable future. We are unafraid of tackling hard problems, pushing boundaries, and embracing creativity to find innovative solutions. We believe that varied perspectives fuel our best ideas and help us grow as creative problem solvers. If you are driven by purpose and inspired by the potential to make a difference, we’d love to have you join us on this journey.

Evari is seeking an exceptional Embedded Controls Engineer to develop the real-time embedded control software and system-level control strategies that orchestrate Evari’s compressor and motor systems. You will own the firmware, real-time control algorithms, and integration layer that coordinate multiple motor drives—managing startup sequencing, speed and torque regulation, fault handling, and diagnostics for high-speed rotating equipment. Rather than designing inverters or power electronics in-house, you will specify drive requirements to third-party vendors and OEM partners, select and integrate off-the-shelf and co-developed drives, and define the control architecture that ties them together. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in embedded real-time systems and motor control, a strong working knowledge of power electronics sufficient to specify and integrate drive hardware, and the ability to run this effort independently. Your creative design talents and practical hands‑on know-how will help us rapidly bring high-performance products to life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement real-time embedded control firmware that orchestrates multiple motor drives and manages high-speed compressor operation across Evari products.
  • Determine the optimal control architecture
  • Develop, model, and validate control algorithms using MATLAB Simulink and Simscape
  • Specify motor drive requirements, performance targets, and communication interfaces to third‑party drive vendors and OEM partners; collaborate with them to define control interfaces and, where necessary, influence or define low‑level drive firmware to meet system latency and responsiveness needs.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, encoders, resolvers, and other feedback devices into the control architecture
  • Conduct system testing, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including mechanical engineering, software engineering, and manufacturing, to define system requirements and ensure successful product integration.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to maintenance, engineering, and manufacturing personnel, and train them in new or improved technologies.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing, developing, programming, and testing electrical control systems for automated products, systems, and equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience with embedded controllers
  • Working knowledge of power electronics and motor drive architecture
  • Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++ for real-time control, with Python for scripting, tooling, and data analysis.
  • Strong proficiency with MATLAB Simulink and Simscape for model‑based control design (or similar tools)
  • Automatic code generation experience - ideally using Raptor or OpenECU
  • Experience with model based software
  • Hands‑on experience with CAN for motor drive communication
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem‑solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and provide technical support to maintenance and manufacturing personnel.
  • Knowledge of various sensors, actuators, encoders, resolvers, and controllers used in industrial automation and motor control systems.
  • Experience with system testing, validation, and commissioning.
Salary and Benefits:
  • Evari offers competitive compensation that is commensurate with experience.
  • Employer‑sponsored insurance plans include: health, dental, vision, life, short‑ & long‑term disability, AD&D, and paid family medical leave.
  • Flexible paid time off
  • 12 Paid Company Holidays
Location:
  • Our lab is in Peterborough, New Hampshire on riverfront property within a renovated historic mill building that is powered by 100% renewable energy.
  • U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents only.

At Evari, we value and prioritize diversity of thought, access, and experiences, and are an equal opportunity employer by choice. We consider all qualified applicants equally for employment. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, protected veteran status, religion, physical or mental disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, or any other basis protected by law, ordinance, or regulation.
