Job summary

Statkraft is seeking a Control Centre Operator for the Day Shift at the Cwm Rheidol Hydro Electric Scheme near Aberystwyth, Wales. You will monitor and control a diverse portfolio including onshore wind, hydro, BESS and rotating stabilisers, ensuring safe, reliable operation in a 24/7 environment.

Key duties include real-time alarms handling, switching coordination with National Grid and other stakeholders, and logging compliance.

Qualifications

  • An engineering qualification (HNC or equivalent), or significant relevant industry experience, supported by a strong understanding of power generation, electrical systems, operational environments or critical infrastructure.
  • Experience operating, monitoring or controlling electro-mechanical plant and equipment, ideally within the energy sector, including control room operations, system operations or real-time monitoring environments.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations, Grid Code requirements, High Voltage Safety Rules and Safe Systems of Work. Operational authorisations and switching experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong technical, IT and communication skills, including experience with SCADA, energy management systems or other operational monitoring platforms, with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions under pressure, solve complex operational problems and adapt to changing priorities within a fast-paced 24/7 operational environment.
  • A highly motivated and accountable approach, with a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control Statkraft's renewable energy assets in real time, responding to alarms and events to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Operate HV and LV plant in accordance with Safety Rules, operational procedures and Grid Code requirements.
  • Coordinate activities with National Grid, Transmission Owners, Distribution Network Operators and other stakeholders to safely execute switching operations and outages.
  • Maximise asset availability by managing planned and unplanned outages and restoration activities.
  • Support optimisation of commercial performance by reporting asset capability and constraints.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, records and reports ensuring regulatory and company compliance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes, systems and safety performance.

Statkraft Energy Ltd is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Statkraft's UK and Ireland assets. The company's 24/7 Control Centre, based at the Cwm Rheidol Hydro Electric Scheme near Aberystwyth, Wales, monitors and controls a diverse portfolio of renewable generation and grid support assets including wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), rotating stabilisers and hydroelectric generation across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

We are seeking a Control Centre Operator (Day Shift) to join our team at the Cwm Rheidol Hydro Electric Scheme near Aberystwyth. The successful candidate will play a key role in the real-time monitoring and operation of Statkraft’s portfolio of renewable energy assets, including onshore wind, hydro, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and rotating stabilisers, helping to maximise performance and maintain operational excellence.

Job Description
  • Monitor and control Statkraft's renewable energy assets, including onshore wind, hydro, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and rotating stabilisers in real time. Respond effectively to alarms, operational events and changing network conditions to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations.
  • Operate High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) plant and apparatus in accordance with Safety Rules, Safe Systems of Work, operational procedures, Grid Code requirements and company standards.
  • Coordinate operational activities with National Grid, Transmission Owners, Distribution Network Operators and other stakeholders to safely execute switching operations, outages and operational instructions.
  • Maximise asset availability and reliability by managing planned and unplanned outages, supporting fault response and restoration activities, and ensuring the safe and timely return of assets to service.
  • Support the optimisation of commercial performance through accurate management and reporting of asset capability, availability and operational constraints, enabling participation across multiple electricity markets.
  • Maintain accurate operational logs, records and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory, operational and company requirements.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, systems and safety performance across the Control Centre function.
