London Cycle Hire, or Santander Cycles, is the largest cycle hire scheme in the UK, recording over 1 million hires monthly. It operates 24/7, 365 days a year, with more than 12,300 bikes, including 500 eBikes (with an additional 1,400 in 2024), and over 800 docking stations across London. The scheme promotes quick, easy, and environmentally friendly transportation, recently expanding to Southwest London from Shepherds Bush to Canary Wharf and Wandsworth Town to Camden Town.
As a Control Centre Operative, you will oversee daily operations of London's Cycle Hire Scheme, managing drivers, mobile operatives, and incident responses, maintaining contact with on-street and redistribution teams. You will coordinate logistics, analyze operational performance, and prioritize tasks based on KPIs, operational plans, and TfL requirements. You will operate core technologies, including incident management software and security logs, to support maintenance and incident response, ensuring accurate data capture.
This role is crucial in managing the redistribution of bicycles to meet customer demand and supporting the control team in delivering and improving the scheme. Our team comprises professional, friendly, and supportive members, including managers who started as Control Centre Operatives and advanced to supervisory and managerial roles.
We prioritize ongoing development and career progression, offering training and qualifications such as driving courses, team leadership, and management training, supported by a dedicated management team.
Ideal candidates can multitask in a fast-paced environment, handle pressure and deadlines, think quickly, make decisions independently, and possess common sense. You should have intermediate skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong analytical abilities, and customer service skills. The role requires effective planning, organization, adaptability, and flexibility to work on a shift rota. Experience in logistics, reactive, and maintenance planning is preferred. Note: The position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
