Job description

Purpose of the role

This role reports directly into the Acceptance and Test Manager. The purpose of the role is to:

  • Provide Control and Instrumentation input to the creation of Test engineering deliverables, both in terms of coordinating the with the wider engineering team to understand the test requirements for the C&I aspects of products, and defining C&I test equipment
  • Provide data acquisition and SCADA systems in support of product testing activities

The Control and Instrumentation Test Engineer will work closely with the wider engineering and test teams to develop solutions in support of Test Instruction Sheers and data capture to support product acceptance. The role will also liaise with the Test Supervisor to ensure solutions are fully handed over to the Test Department for use.

Level of Supervision

This role should require some supervision. The Control and Instrumentation Test Engineer should be self-motivated, but is expected to perform tasks with regular delegation and input from other engineers and project leads. The role will work closely with the Acceptance and Test Manager.

Key Goals and Objectives

Overall performance in this role will be measured by the delivery of successful Control and Instrumentation aspects of product testing, including data acquisition. Goals and objectives for the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Design and specification of tests and test equipment to demonstrate products fulfil Control and Instrumentation requirements.
  • Implementation of successful and robust SCADA and general data acquisition systems into product testing
  • Technical leadership in relevant aspects of test engineering across all business areas.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to define appropriate and complete test requirements based on design inputs
  • Proactively engage with all aspects of the business to ensure Test activities are accurately captured and defined throughout the project lifecycle
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with third party test houses
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers
  • Support the continuous improvement of Test Engineering, and other business areas
  • Foster a positive culture towards Health and Safety
  • Ensure all Test activities are performed with safety first
  • Help foster a positive, open and honest team culture
  • Strive for right first time approach to all testing activities
  • Ensure open and honest communication


Requirements

Essential/Required

  • Proven competence in developing control and instrumentation test solutions using industry standard tools
  • Proven record of working on complex marine/naval electro-mechanical and/or hydro-mechanical systems
  • Demonstrable experience working in multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • Experience of managing own work load and adhering to schedules
  • Have a good working knowledge of MS Office
  • Demonstrable commitment to continued professional development


Desirable

  • Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers
  • Registrations with an appropriate professional body.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering approaches and requirements capture


Essential

Minimum Professional, Academic or Other Qualifications

  • HNC/HND Engineering/time served engineer


Desirable

  • BEng or greater Engineering qualification in a relevant subject
