Control and Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Cumbria - Multiple Locations across the UK
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000, depending on experience
Additional Requirements: Due to the nature of the role & the industry, UK SC clearance is required.
We are seeking Principal and Senior C&I professionals to join our team. You will work within various integrated delivery teams, collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure the design solutions meet submarine functional and non-functional requirements.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Develop functional designs and Bills of Materials for C&I solutions in complex propulsion, mechanical, and electrical systems, including deriving designs from Piping & Instrumentation diagrams.
- Specify instrumentation measuring pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analysis suitable for specific process conditions.
- Specify remote functionalities such as Human Machine Interface, Cable Management, & Interface Protocols.
- Create C&I designs satisfying requirements for functionality, safety, defense standards, British standards, naval standards, and nuclear standards.
- Assess and measure compliance against non-functional stakeholders (EMC, Shock, Metallics, etc.).
- Produce verification evidence demonstrating design compliance.
- Produce design documents including I/O schedules, instrument schedules, cable schedules, functional design specifications, and instrument specifications.
- Implement physical system-to-system interface designs.
- Lead technical design reviews for C&I systems.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- STEM Degree or equivalent qualification and experience in engineering.
- Multidisciplinary understanding of engineering, including Mechanical, Process, Instrument, Electrical, Control, and Safety.
Preferred Background:
- Experience with control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-, PROFIBUS).
- Experience with IEC Functional Safety standards and verification of safety-related designs.
- Experience specifying equipment for Hazardous Areas and producing verification evidence such as Hazardous Area Schedules and Intrinsically Safe Loop Calculations.
