Job summary

McLaughlin & Harvey Ltd. is seeking a Contractual Advisor to provide expert guidance on contracts across high value projects.

The role emphasizes reviewing and negotiating main contract amendments, risk assessment, and contract administration within a dynamic construction environment. The ideal candidate holds a law or construction-related degree with knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts and 1–4 years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in law or construction related field.
• Working knowledge of the NEC and JCT suite of contracts.
• Experience in construction contracts is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing and negotiating main contract amendments.
• Generating subcontract documents.
• Assisting the project team in negotiating terms and conditions of subcontract packages.
• Delivering advice on how the main contract/subcontract operates.
• Provide ad hoc support on contractual matters.

What you will be doing

Our Contractual Advisor is an integral part of our construction team. The core role of the Advisor is to provide contractual advice and guidance to our construction teams to help deliver our projects to the standard expected from one of the leading contractors in the UK and Ireland.

The role is exciting and varied. It ranges from reviewing and negotiating complex contract amendments, assessing contractual risks and assisting with contract administration.

Day to day duties include:

• Reviewing and negotiating main contract amendments;
• Generating subcontract documents;
• Assisting the project team in negotiating the terms and conditions of subcontract packages;
• Delivering advice on how the main contract/subcontract operates;
• Provide ad hoc support on contractual matters;
• Prepare and deliver training seminars on standard forms and amended contract terms.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent qualification, in law or a construction related field such as QS, Civil Engineering, Project Management
• A working knowledge of the NEC and JCT suite of contracts

Desirable

• A qualification in construction law, ICE LCMC or similar would be of benefit.

Experience

• The job opening skill level is best suited to applicants with 1-4 years relative experience.
