Job summary

Our client is looking for an experienced Contract Manager to join their team. You will be a senior leader within the business responsible for the successful delivery of civils and groundworks projects from contract award to completion. You will take full ownership of each project following handover from the estimating team, ensuring that works are planned, resourced, delivered, and closed out efficiently, safely, compliantly, and profitably.

• Working knowledge of NEC / JCT contract management

• Proficient in MS Project or equivalent programme tools

Key Responsibilities:

Project Setup and Mobilisation

• Take full ownership of project setup following handover from the Estimator.

• Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to identify key deliverables.

• Develop project delivery strategies and programmes in collaboration with site teams.

• Lead on mobilisation activities including logistics, procurement, labour planning, and resource scheduling.

• Ensure pre-start meetings are held with commercial, HSQE, and operational teams.

Programme and Project Management

• Create, manage, and monitor project programmes to ensure works are delivered on time and in accordance with contract requirements.

• Adjust resources and sequencing as required to maintain progress and resolve delays.

• Ensure accurate reporting on progress, risk, variations, and forecasts.

Leadership

• Lead the recruitment of operational staff including Site Managers, Foremen, and labour.

• Build, manage, and mentor high-performing site teams.

• Set clear expectations, allocate responsibilities, and ensure accountability across all levels.

• Conduct performance reviews and support professional development of staff.

Commercial & Budget Control

• Work closely with the Quantity Surveyor (QS) team to monitor project budgets, variations, and commercial risks.

• Ensure value engineering opportunities are identified and captured.

• Track labour, plant, and materials costs against target allowances.

• Ensure final accounts are closed out in a timely and accurate manner.

• Champion a positive health and safety culture across all projects.

• Ensure works are carried out in full compliance with company HSQE requirements.

• Conduct site audits and ensure safety documentation (RAMS, permits, inductions) is in place and up to date.

• Liaise with the HSQE Manager and ensure site teams are supported.
