Contractor’s Responsible Engineer – Track Construction, North West and Central Renewals

Murphy is seeking an experienced Contractor’s Responsible Engineer – Track (Construction), CRE (C), to support the delivery of track elements within multidisciplinary projects across Murphy’s rail portfolio. Reporting to the CEM and working closely with project managers, site teams, designers, discipline CREs and specialist subcontractors, the CRE Track will be responsible for assuring track-related activities in accordance with Network Rail standards, Murphy procedures and project requirements. The role will require practical technical leadership, helping to manage discipline interfaces, resolve construction-stage issues and support safe, compliant delivery in a live rail environment.

A day in the life of a Murphy Contractor’s Responsible Engineer – Track Construction,
  • Coordinate with civils, signalling, E&P, telecoms, drainage and other discipline CREs to manage interfaces, clarify scope boundaries and resolve technical issues affecting the track scope.
  • Lead regular engagement with designers to assure buildability, safe construction, installation, testing, commissioning and handback.
  • Review design submissions for technical quality, completeness, compliance, constructability, maintainability and interface risks.
  • Provide track input into Invitation to Tender documentation and review subcontractor proposals.
  • Provide technical input into Project Execution Plans, construction methodologies, possession strategies and delivery programmes.
  • Review and approve Work Package Plans, Task Briefing Sheets, Risk Assessments, inspection and test plans, commissioning plans and associated assurance documentation.
  • Manage controls for Critical Rail Temperature, track monitoring and temporary/permanent speed restrictions, ensuring records are completed, reviewed and reported appropriately.

  • Review design and construction programmes to support integration with other engineering disciplines and delivery workstreams.
  • Mentor engineers and support the development of future CRE capability.
  • Support the CEM, project managers, commercial teams and site teams with timely engineering input, technical decision‑making and resolution of construction‑stage issues.
  • Attend site as required to liaise with site managers, engineers, supervisors and subcontractors, providing practical engineering support and assurance.
Still interested, does this sound like you?
