Endeavour Recruitment has a fantastic contract opportunity for a Security Cleared (SC) Technical Author. Based in Hook, Hampshire, our client require a Technical Author with a background in IT to undertake an initial 3 month contract. The rate on offer for this contract is in the region of £275 per day.

Responsibilities

  • Updating of existing technical handbooks
  • Authorship from scratch of new Chapters, Annexes or Addenda covering any new capability or system extension. The manual set covers User (application related processes); System Management (architecture, system administration, configuration, setting to work, backup & recovery, LAN/WAN, clients and peripherals); and System Deployment (set-up and tear down, interconnections, disaster recovery).
  • Research each task from available information, carry out ‘hand-on’ investigations, define and detail user and administrative processes with appropriate screen shots, produce accompanying illustrations as drawings or digital images, confirm functionality and verify the procedures. This will involve direct liaison with developers/engineers, liaison with the end customer and final production of high quality deliverable documentation.
  • Knowledge and understanding of IT systems including basic architectural principles, standard methods of operation, system administration tasks and equipment/system connectivity.
  • System administrator knowledge of MS Windows Server 2003/2008 and/or MS Exchange 2010.
  • Experience of technical authorship within an IT/Government environment with an onus on customer deliverable manuals.
  • Ability to pro-actively gather information from developers/designers.
  • Ability to determine processes from briefings, re-inforced through hands-on investigation and documented at an appropriate level of detail and understanding.
  • Ability to ‘translate’ information unambiguously into quality manuals using simple, clear English.
  • Ability to ‘see-beyond’ an issue and discover hidden details, options or alternative methods to tasks and processes and then capture and communicate them through written media.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, Adobe Acrobat and drawing/graphics packages including Visio and Paint Shop Pro.
  • Familiar with the system and software development lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory (AD)
  • Understanding of server Virtualisation.
  • HM Forces background/knowledge.
  • Team worker in a pressurised environment.
