Job summary

Sanderson Recruitment in Glasgow is seeking an experienced Cloud Architect to design and deliver complex cloud-native solutions for large-scale platforms. You will lead architectural decisions, drive security and scalability, and mentor multiple teams across the organisation.

The role requires 5+ years in production software engineering, strong expertise in Go/Python, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms, with a focus on observability and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of production software engineering experience with strong system design and development skills.
• Hands-on Google Cloud Platform experience building and operating cloud-native workloads.
• Experience in cloud architecture, distributed systems, security, AI/ML, or platform engineering.
• Advanced programming expertise in Go and/or Python.
• Kubernetes platform engineering experience, including CRDs and API extensions.
• Strong knowledge of Kubernetes internals, multi-tenancy, and observability.
• Proven experience with CI/CD, automation, infrastructure as code, and deployment pipelines.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile delivery, resiliency, and security.
• Practical use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude Code.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and technical leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver complex cloud-native solutions.
• Make strategic architectural decisions and solve ambiguous technical challenges.
• Develop secure, high-quality code.
• Lead architecture reviews and create design artefacts such as RFCs, ADRs, and architecture diagrams.
• Influence multiple teams through technical design and architectural direction.
• Drive operational excellence by improving system reliability, scalability, performance, and observability.
• Evaluate new technologies and vendors.
• Shape cloud platform strategy.
• Contribute to best practices in CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and cloud-native engineering.
• Mentor engineers, lead communities of practice, and raise engineering standards across the organisation.
