Contract Mechanical CAD Engineer

Poole, Dorset

Day rate equivalent to £48,000–£54,000 + pension

Contract 6months rolling | Daytime Monday to Friday | Early finish on Fridays

Join a growing and friendly engineering manufacturing business as a Mechanical CAD Engineer, where you’ll take a senior role in a small, collaborative team. This is a hands-on position with added responsibility for overseeing junior engineers and interpreting mechanical draughting requirements from both internal colleagues and external customers.

This is an onsite office based role, with very little WFH due to the nature of the product.

As a Mechanical CAD Engineer, you’ll be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and clarity of CAD drawings, mentoring junior team members, and acting as a key point of contact for translating customer requirements into manufacturable designs. You’ll work on a variety of low-volume, high-quality mechanical products including CNC machined components, sheet metal fabrications, and mechanical assemblies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support the CAD function as a Mechanical CAD Engineer

• Interpret and translate customer and colleague requirements into detailed CAD drawings

• Oversee and mentor junior CAD engineers, ensuring quality and consistency

• Participate in weekly project review meetings and contribute to continuous improvement

• Maintain and update CAD models and drawings for a range of mechanical products

Ideal Background:

• Proven experience as a Mechanical CAD Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, or similar

• Strong 3D CAD skills (Solid Edge, SolidWorks, or similar)

• HND, HNC, BTEC Level 4, or degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

• A collaborative team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving

• Comfortable working in a low-volume, high-variety engineering environment
