Job summary

Henry Martin Group is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join our Southern Region. You will oversee 2–3 live projects and 1–3 schemes in PCSA/pre-construction, guiding Project Managers and site teams to deliver safely, on time and within budget.

You will work closely with design, planning and commercial teams, build strong relationships with clients and consultants, and report progress and risks to regional leadership. A strong main contracting background is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience taking projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• Strong understanding of PCSA, procurement, programme management and project delivery.
• Ability to lead experienced Project Managers and build effective site teams.
• Good commercial awareness and a proactive approach to managing risk.
• Experience across commercial, education, residential or public sector projects.
• Strong client relationships and a collaborative approach.

I’m working with an established, privately owned Tier 1 main contractor looking to appoint a Contracts Manager to join its Southern Region.

The business turns over approximately £1.4bn and has a strong financial position, longstanding client relationships and a varied pipeline across commercial, education, residential and public sector projects.

This is a good opportunity for an experienced Contracts Manager looking for real ownership of their workload, backed by an established regional leadership team and the resources of a national contractor.

The role

You’ll oversee approximately 2–3 live projects, alongside 1–3 schemes progressing through PCSA and pre-construction. Experienced Project Managers will report directly into you, with responsibility for guiding their teams and keeping projects on track from the early stages through to handover.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading delivery across multiple projects, ensuring safety, quality, programme and commercial targets are met.
• Supporting Project Managers and their site teams, providing clear direction and resolving delivery challenges.
• Overseeing schemes through PCSA, working closely with pre-construction, design, planning and commercial teams.
• Managing resources, procurement priorities and key project milestones.
• Building strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors.
• Working with commercial teams to monitor performance, manage risk and protect project margins.
• Developing your team and reporting progress, risks and resource requirements to the regional leadership team.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced Contracts Manager, or operating in a similar senior operational role, with a strong main contracting background and a track record of managing multiple projects.

You’ll need:

• Experience taking projects from pre-construction through to completion.
• A strong understanding of PCSA, procurement, programme management and project delivery.
• The ability to lead experienced Project Managers and build effective site teams.
• Good commercial awareness and a proactive approach to managing risk.
• Experience across commercial, education, residential or public sector projects.
• Strong client relationships and a straightforward, collaborative approach.

DfE project experience would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential. The business is equally interested in candidates with a strong delivery record across the other relevant sectors.
