Job description

Job Title: Contract and Supplier Manager

Location: Scotstoun, Glasgow or Filton, Bristol. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £45,000 to £52,000 depending on skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing the supplier responsibilities during delivery, installation and commissioning of key equipment on the ship
  • Working with Engineering, Operations and Quality to deliver equipment from suppliers that meets our specification, quality, schedule and cost requirements
  • Leading multi discipline activities - e.g. weekly project reviews with suppliers, Factory Acceptance Tests of equipment, quarterly business reviews, in yard supplier visits etc.
  • Managing the contract with each supplier including managing delivery of agreed milestones to cost and schedule, negotiating any contract changes with suppliers and investigating and resolving claims for delays or poor performance
  • Using the ERM and SAP systems to manage Purchase Orders and other deliverables
  • Reporting monthly and quarterly on cost and schedule performance including supplier performance
  • Leading on cost by actively pursuing cost reduction or cost avoidance activity, often requiring multi stakeholder buy-in

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Experience of direct procurement with complex systems
  • Experience of managing complex contracts in a manufacturing and commissioning phase
  • Commercial acumen with experience managing budgets and financial stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate and influence at various levels - from operations to senior management

Desirable:

  • MCIPS qualified or equivalent, working towards CIPS or suitable experience in a relevant role
  • Experience of Project Management methodologies and techniques including cost management

The Type 26 Combat Systems Supply Chain team:

This is a dynamic and rewarding role within the Supply Chain team at BAE Systems Naval Ships, where no two days are the same. You'll coordinate closely with suppliers, shipbuilders, and engineers to ensure the delivery of equipment, installation, and commissioning services align with cost and schedule commitments. Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager and working across multiple functions, you'll gain valuable exposure to one of the UK's largest defence programmes while supporting national security. You'll also coach junior team members and benefit from ongoing learning, and support for further education to accelerate your future career growth.
