Job summary

Progressive is looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer to drive process optimisation and efficiency at their site near Stevenage. Continuous Improvement Engineer

Location: Near Stevenage

Salary: Up to £45,000 + Bonus + Benefits

Are you a Manufacturing Engineer, Production Engineer or Continuous Improvement Engineer with experience in high-volume manufacturing and a passion for continuous improvement? This is a brand‑new opportunity to join a global engineering and manufacturing business near Stevenage where you will play a key role in driving process optimisation, efficiency and operational excellence.

The Continuous Improvement Engineer Role

As a Continuous Improvement Engineer, you will lead initiatives to improve production performance, reduce waste and enhance quality across a fast‑paced manufacturing site. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams and support both existing production and new product introduction activities, across processes including machining, welding and fabrication.

Key Responsibilities of the Continuous Improvement Engineer
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean methodologies including Kaizen, SMED, Six Sigma and Value Stream Mapping
  • Improve manufacturing efficiency, quality and output across machining, welding and fabrication processes
  • Drive defect reduction through error‑proofing and process control
  • Support new product introduction from concept through to production
  • Specify and validate equipment, tooling and fixtures
  • Deliver cost reduction and value engineering projects
  • Prepare and justify CapEx proposals including cost analysis
  • Support capital investment projects and site improvements
Requirements of Continuous Improvement Engineer
  • HND or Degree in Engineering, ideally Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing, ideally automotive or similar
  • Knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Experience working with machining, welding, fabrication or assembly processes
  • Experience working with automation, assembly systems, tooling or test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and process data
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt would be advantageous
  • Experience with CapEx or capital investment projects would be beneficial
