Employment Status: Temporary, Part-time (0.75 FTE)

Program Name: Home Support

Number of Hours Bi-Weekly: 60

Work Schedule: Days, Evenings, Weekends

Union/Bargaining Unit: NSGEU

Anticipated End Date: September 2025

On Call: No

Locations: Annapolis and Kings County, NS

Responsibilities:
  • Work with clients in their homes to provide personal care
  • Assist with daily living activities, such as grooming, dressing, and bathing
  • Provide respite care

  • Monitor and maintain household safety

Qualifications:
  • Continuing Care Assistant Certification (CCA)
  • PSW, HSW, or other relevant certification or work experience (enrolled in or eligible for the Nova Scotia CCA RPL Program)
  • Students in nursing, CCA programs, and internationally educated nurses are also considered
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable vehicle
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (Vulnerable Sector Search may be required)
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Funding is available for the Continuing Care Assistant Program at community colleges across Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Government covers tuition and most costs for eligible applicants. Contact your local college for details.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activities including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements emphasizing good body mechanics. Tasks involve walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and fine hand movements.
