Opportunity: Legal Risk Underwriter

A growth opportunity has arisen to join a recognised speciality legal risk underwriter. The existing team seeks an experienced solicitor with expertise in commercial litigation to join as a key team member. An established interest in litigation, legal risks insurance, and funding is essential. This role suits a progressive individual who enjoys client-facing work and has strong analytical skills to review a wide range of commercial litigation and legal risks.

Responsibilities:

• Develop a robust network of professionals in law firms, corporates, intermediaries, funders, and capital providers.
• Participate in and/or lead risk assessment and underwriting of commercial litigation and contentious risks.
• Understand bespoke insurance products related to legal risks, including ATE risks, funder indemnity risks, defence side contingent risks, and judgment preservation/appeal risks.
• Perform general technical underwriting duties, including risk screening, underwriting, and preparation of non-binding indications (NBIs) and referrals.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, and business partners.

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience practicing as an associate solicitor at a recognised law firm, preferably with relevant experience.
• Ability to present and develop product awareness for target clients.
• Experience in developing, implementing, and negotiating litigation-focused contingent liability products for commercial litigants, law firms, or other purchasers.
